Loan negotiations won’t affect this year’s schedule
There’s been some buzz lately about our outstanding loan and tax payments on the land owned by the Rocky Lake Development Association (RLDA). Allow us to set the record straight: our current loan payment negotiations won't affect Dome Operations or ice time schedule in any way.
We're very proud of the Rocky Lake Dome. Since November 2009 it has provided desperately-needed space for minor hockey, ringette, ball hockey and lacrosse leagues from Bedford, Sackville, Fall River and Waverly. Even with the opening of the BMO 4-pad, we've booked 100% of our prime ice time. The Dome benefits from great management, loyal and hardworking staff and enthusiastic user groups. It is well-used and runs as a break-even facility, and there are no plans to change ownership, access or management.
The Province is eager to be repaid money approved for the 2008 land purchase. And the volunteer members of our non-profit Board are working with a number of groups to find a solution that keeps the Rocky Lake Dome Arena in operation after the end of this season without giving up our vision for more and better recreational facilities in our community. At the same time, we're still working with the Daniel Nestor Tennis Centre to bring a world-class indoor tennis centre to Atlantic Canada; and planning how best to meet the need for community-focused recreational facilities on this site.
Thank you for your loyalty; and please keep enjoying the Rocky Lake Dome. We look forward to providing you with great recreational opportunities for years to come.
